Random Shutoff
I have a 92 Grand Marquis, that will, at random, just cut out. I could be pulling into a parking space, or stopped at a red light, but all of a sudden when I'm not applying gas, the engine will die. Any ideas?

Can't really begin to give you suggestions with that little bit of info. What actions have you taken thus far to remedy the situation?

I have put in Fuel system cleaner, checked the O2 sensor, hooked up a diag computer to it, which returns no codes, replaced the PCV valve. That's about it.
The engine will also make a ticking sound, that, as the more I apply the gas, the faster it (the sound) gets. Also, while idling, it appears that the RPMs will change every once in a while, liek its struggling to stay on.

Note on last post: I also regularly change the oil every 3000 miles, and have done all the required maintenence.
I thought it might have been a gumed up fuel system, considering the car has so few miles on it, and is so old (30,000, 1992)

Hey Dude - I also own a 92 Marquis, and now have an impressive amount of knowledge from the members of this site: www.crownvic.net . I suggest taking a look at the site, and going into the 4.6L Technical forum, and posting about your car's ailments.
Now, here's what I think it 'could' be: 1. Plugs - how long ago have you changed them? I change mine out yearly with OEM Ford Motocraft Copper plugs 2. Plug wires - coil packs would cause a code to be thrown if they were bad, but not wires. 3. Dirty Mass Air Flow Sensor - sounds crazy, but it's true. If the wires are dirty, they can't tell how much the air/fuel ratio should be. 4. Plugged up Fuel Filter - restricts fuel. 5. Dirty throttle body (and or intake manifold), will cause it to stall occasionally, and cause crappy running. Good luck!
