1986 Camry engine stopped while driving
On 13 Jan 06, while my daughter was driving our 1986 Camry DLX, the engine stopped and would not restart. Last year in August we got a complete tune-up, transmission check, fuel injectors cleaned, new alternator, new battery, air conditioner pump, and replaced all the belts. It has been driving fairly well since then, as she didn't drive it often.
She filled up with gas on the 12th, drove it for the better part of that day, and even took it to work the next morning. However on her way back home, the engine stopped, thankfully near a shopette. The engine failed to turn over. We have checked the distributor. Noticed that when placing the connector to the spark plug near metal it will not spark. There is no power getting to the spark plugs. There is no smell of gas. When trying to start, the engine seems to want to start but never quite kicks in. I am willing to take it to a mechanic, but don't want to be charged an outrageous price for something that I can purchase and replace on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, rani |

Did they change the timing belt? If that breaks, or slips several teeth the car will not run. |

Ignition coils?
Hmmm since I put the notice here, I've been told that it could be the vacuum that is near the distributor and I have been told that it could be the coils. I think I will have it towed to the Toyota dealer and let them have at it...probably will cost...I'm sure it's less than getting a new car. Thanks, Rani |

The timing belt was checked and it is good. Then again I better just get it checked out at the dealer. Thanks for your input.
