Battery problems with audio EQ

I really don't know what the problem is, but i still have my factory battery to my 2002 chevy silverado, ext cab and i have a 450.2 channel Bridged kicker KX amp, and 2 kicker comp vr 12's wired for both voice coils, and a pioneer DEH-P8MP cd player set to 40 watts, instead of 60. I also have projector head lights, with halos and LED lights installed, i figure i'm using so many watts that its draining my battery. The first time i installed everything my truck wouldn't start so i figured maybe it was a kink in the battery wire, bad fuse, or maybe bad connection but everything proved to be OK because the next time i installed it everything worked just fine till i turned my truck off. I let it sit with the cd player and subwoofers going for 7 seconds then opened the door, which shut them off, went inside a resturant to order and came back out minutes later and my truck wouldn't start until i started wiggling the wire. Yesterday i bought a new battery and installed it, but i was wondering if this be just a bad connection? And what would be the best solution? i.e. stingray alternator, or a capacitor(correct spelling?)

Thanks!

Re: Battery problems with audio EQ

Sounds like something is killing the battery while the truck is off. Does the amp have a remote wire?

dont get a cap, check for power drain while off, upgrade Big 3, and after all that, if necessary, buy a new alt.

Big 3? Cables, Alternator, Battery?

methinks you have a remote wire connected to a hot wire.

Re: Battery problems with audio EQ

I agree you probably have the remote wire connected to a constant 12v keeping the amp on at all times. When you are driving with the lights on at night and the system cranked do the lights flicker at all. If they do then you DEFINATELY need to get a cap as that IS draining your battery faster than your alt. can recharge it. I have never had, never installed, never recommended, never will install a system without at least a 1 farad cap. and anyone who does better have a good bit of money to keep buying batteries and charging them and buying more powerful alts.

Re: Battery problems with audio EQ

Get a better alternator before you think about getting a cap.....in which case should be passed up and another battery put in its place if the alternator doesn't do the job.

Why do you think SPL competitors use full size car batteries instead of caps?
