new engine

ok, so i'm now at the point where i can afford to spend some money on my car (saving insurance money kicks ass).. my buddy is in the process of putting in a ca (the one i was thinking of buying) and wants to sell me his old KA.. its got about 210,000kms (not miles) and a lot of them are commuting kms.. not a lot of city driving.. now i've driven this car before with the ka in it and it drove very well, much better than mine.. in fact, the best ka i've driven in a 240.. he wants to sell it to me for $500CDN.. i say FUCK THAT SHIT i want it for less.. for those who have dealt with selling/buying engines, what do you think? would i be ripping him off if i asked for it for $350 or $400?? btw this includes the tranny.. basically its an ideal KA for me. everything works.. and its from a 92.. can't think of any other details i'd need..
either way, i could have this engine on my hands whenever i want, i just have to finalize a deal with him.. then i'd pay his buddy who's swapping in the CA to help me put the new ka in my car.. (maybe $2-300..)

opinions please

Re: new engine

500$ isn't that bad if it comes with a tranny and if the clutch is still in good shape and depending on compression.

Re: new engine

what is 500 in canadian vs US dollar? around 450 or so? i think thats steep for a used ka with that many miles 120k miles? (dont know the conversion) anywho..i would say $300 tops.

Re: new engine

I say just invest into turbo kit for your own KA; or buy his, just the engine, and build it for boost.

Re: new engine

210km = 130,488 miles

500canada = 431 usd

id say ask for 400 or so, if the motor is straight and the clutch is good, i dont think youll get 350

Re: new engine

i've got a brand new act clutch and ss line i'll put in the new engine. i'm going to the shop that the car with the ca being installed and the ka are at sometime this week.. the ka and tranny are apart right now so i'll get a good look at the flywheel while putting the new clutch in.. at the same time, i'll get kyle (the guy who's doing all the swapping) to take the engine apart for cleaning and visual inspection.. so i'm thinking about telling him $400.. the only reason he wants $500 is cause he wants to buy a new exhaust.. i might have to tell him its a tough deal.. and compression tests were done this past summer and it was 175-180-180-175 so i'm pretty sure this is the one
