Turn signal lever

Is it just my 97 Lesabre custom or are all Buicks equipped with a hard, noisy and cluncky turn signal lever?

Is there a way to modify this somewhat annoying design flaw? If the japanese can do it, why can't we?

Re: Turn signal lever

My '87 is definately harder to click in place than, say, the Mazda B2200 I drive daily is. I have grown used to it. It was much worse when my steering wheel flopped all over the place...

No your Lesabre turn signal lever is not (the word not was added on edit) supost to be hard, noisy and cluncky. Mine is just fine. How long have you owned this car? Has it been this way all of the time?

Regards

Dan

Re: Turn signal lever

Dan

Is or isn't supposed to be hard, noisy and cluncky? I've had this car for a month now and it's been that way from the get go.

Regards,
Matt

Re: Turn signal lever

Re: Mazda or LeSabre, my LeSabre is tougher to click in place than the Mazda.

The Mazda is easy, just enough effort to change, definite snap in position but not much force. It's what I would expect. The Celica I just aquired is similar.

The Buick sometimes doesn't stick unless I use a lot of effort, it feels like something cracks, then it sticks. Not to say I have to strong-arm it into moving, but it definately requires more force than either of the two above mentioend vehicles.

If you were asking which one I am used to, I would have to say both If you're talking about the steering wheel flopping, that was the Buick.

Keep in mind this is the only LeSabre (or Buick - or even GM, less the company vans) I have driven or played with. I had to get a new lever from the junk yard not long ago but I didn't play with the junk yard one to determine if it was any better / worse than mine. Also, I don't know how different the '87 and the '97 levers are - I know they are different but I have no idea to what extent the signal mechanism is different, it may be a whole different thing.

Sorry guys....I don't know why your signals are engaging hard. You might have to pull it apart and check things out. I know they are supost to be easy.

Mine remindes me of the 76 Nova I used to own. Left, clunk, right, clunk. My company's van, a 97 Chevy 1500 has a smoother lever. I just drove a buddy's 94 Mercury Sable and it has waaay smoother lever.
What gives? What can be done about it?

Matt

Re: Turn signal lever

My wife's 2001 saturn- soft turn signal, brother in law's 2003 Voyager- REAL soft turn signal switch, 97' Grand Am- REAL soft switch, mother in law's 99' Suburban is harder, my 92' Park Ave is harder, my 92' Dodge Dynasty is softer than Park Ave...I think it's all in year and/ or manufacturer

For what is considered to be a luxury car and the vintage, this is unacceptable!
