storing a car.

i'm going to be parking my car for a while since I got another one and this one needs a few minor issues to address. The car will probably be sitting for 6 months to a year before I drive it again. So my question is, is it better to park the car with a fuller tank of gas or a less full tank of gas, or does it not matter?

Re: storing a car.

Put some STA-BIL in it and it should be fine, remove the battery if you want but atleast disconnect it so it doesnt drain or pop.

Put fuel stabilizer in it and disconnect the battery as said above. I would also put it on jackstands or blocks so you dont get flat spots on the tires. This isnt as big of a problem now days with radial tires as it used to be, but I would still do it.

Re: storing a car.

Change the oil before you store it as contaminants in the oil that is currently in the engine can damage internal components. When you put the fuel stabilizer in the gas tank, make sure you run the car for awhile to circulate the stabilizer throughout the fuel system. Depends on where you plan on storing the vehicle, you might also want to think of rodent control, as mice and other critters can find their way into the vehicle. Years ago, people used moth balls in the car to deter the rodents, but today there might be alternatives to that , that don't give off the strong smell. Also check your antifreeze if you live in a colder climate to make sure you are protected from temperature extremes. One last thing that I can think of is that if you are storing the vehicle in humid conditions , you might want to place dessicant in the interior of the car to absorb moisture.
