1988 Le Baron

Hello. Was thinking about buying a 88" Le Baron rag top.4 cyl,3 speed auto.I have not owned a Chrysler for many years. The car is real clean,One owner is what the sales man told me.The top works good,And every thing else seems to be in working order.Engine does have an oil leak somewhere,As the valve cover has been removed at some point in time.I could see gasket material around where valve cover mates with the head.It is at a Chrysler dealer,And the want $2,900.00 for it.I did drive it and transmisson seems to shift ok.What wear and tear items should I look for? Any other issues with this year of car? Was thing about offering $1,800.00 for car. Thanks,Diesel 1962

Price seems high. How many miles are on it? Do the back windows work? Any rain leaks? My oil pressure sending unit was my oil leak; now fixed.

Re: 1988 Le Baron

Hello.Yes all the power windows work,Along with the A/C. The car has 107,000 miles on it. I could not tell if any rain leaks. What would I look for?,As I never owned a convertible car. The body is in real nice shape. No rust anywhere. The top appears to be in very good condition also.I think this car must have been kept in a garage. No tears in the seats and the carpet does not look like it had water damage. One thing I cannot figure out,Why would a convertible car have A/C?? On a warm day,I would rather have the top down instead of running an air conditioner!! Diesel 1962

Re: 1988 Le Baron

Not sure what part of the country you're in but A/C is a must here in NC. In the summer it can be raining and extremly muggy. Anyway, the car sounds nice. If you don't see any staining under the floormats, smell musty sents, or see any surface rust on the interior trim, it is probably leak free. The rear windows working is a great find in itself. When I bought mine, the rear seat ashtrays would be full of water. Mine needed a new top; now has it. It gets great gas mileage which is a blessing right now. I do like the $1800 a lot better than $2900. You might want to check the prices of them on Ebay for a reference.

Re: 1988 Le Baron

Thanks jmblimo, I live in Michigan,Crappy climate in the winter,But not bad in summertime. I went to the Chrysler dealer yesterday and the car was still there.Hope it is still there when I get my tax $$. Like I said,I think that car must have been garage kept,Cause of the nice condition that it is in. Thank you for your input!! Diesel 1962.............
