Uh oh, big problem here !

Ok ive had a cooling system problem for a while now, and finally yesterday I had the water pump, radiator, and thermostat all replaced and brand new. Well, the car's temperature is nice and stable now, but all of a sudden the car is running REALLY sluggish. Its like when i push the petal the car has barely any acceleration, my RPM goes way up to like 4, and the car gets kind of loud. Could this be my belt?

Sounds like a classic case of automatic transmission failure. Does it go in reverse? Probably the forward clutch in the transmission is slipping due to wear or damage. Check the fluid, it should be clear and bright red or orangish-red if it's never been changed. If it's cloudy, dark, or burned smelling, it's time for a rebuild.

Cool Re: Uh oh, big problem here !

if it ran before you had the radiator replaced, I would check your trans fluid levle.....maybe the shop didnt refill it to the proper level...I also use LUCIS TRANSMISSION ADDITIVE in my 1994 Camaro...220000 miles and still running strong!!

Good Luck

Re: Uh oh, big problem here !

Sigh. this is absolutely unreal what this car is doing to me. It just gets out the shop. 600 dollars to take care of my cooling system. I drive the car around 1 day and now it looks like the transmission has went. When I put the car in gear and push on the petal the wheels dont even turn. This is absolutely ridiculous. Everytime I fix something on this car something else almost immediately always goes on it. I just cant get on my feet with this car.

Look at the bright side. By the time you're done, you'll have a new car!

Re: Uh oh, big problem here !

Ok question for everyone. When I tried to drive the car last night and it wouldnt move it was EXTREMELY cold out. Even my door was frozen shut and I had a very hard time opening it. Could I have had a transmission line or wire or pipe or something really frozen? Or a problem with something else being really frozen? Cause when I went out to check the car out this morning it seemed fine. Then I checked the trans fluid and it was low so I put about half a bottle in and now the car seems to be fine.

Re: Uh oh, big problem here !

Well now I just took the car out for a ride to see how it was and its driving weird again. When Im at a stop and I start to accelerate the car seems really weak, then when i pick some speed up it doesnt seem to want to change gears. This is ridiculous i wish i knew these cars were pieces of crap before i bought it. Ive spent thousands on this car keeping it on the road and its one problem after another. This car is screwing up my job and school.

Re: Uh oh, big problem here !

When you checked the fluid level in the trans, the car was running right?
Did you take a look at the coolant to make shure it looks like a 50/50 mix?

I know its hard, but try to relax, take a brake. I own an 89 with the 2.8 and I have had a lot of problems too, but I have also learned alot about cars more about cars and Ive had a lot of fun. I am in college and have been trying to deal with a big problem myself for over a month now(see blowing gauges fuse...please help). I have owned my camaro for over 4 years and have considered selling many times(beleave me). I could own a newer car with better MPG and fewer problems, but I like the way my camaro looks, handles, sounds, and drives. Try to remember that any and all used cars have problems, but you have to like what you drive, otherwise, why would it be worth fixing?
When you are rested, think about all the symptoms of the problem and be as dicriptive as possible when you post them... for example, "making like this vrroom vroom vroom sound"...do you mean the engine keeps reving or ideling roughly? and when does it happen? When you are slowing down, stopped, ideling, changing gears(which gears)...???
What collor is your tranny fluid? Does the problem happen when the car is cool (havent driven long...first ten mins or so) or when the car is warm?
Do you have the AC or Defroster on when problem occurs?
These are things we need to know to try and help you.
