squeeking brake noise

ok, i have a 95 civic ex, and my brakes keep squeeking and i dont know why... when im drivng, there is a constant rii riir iir iriri noise. then when i hit the brakes, it gets louder then stops, but when i get to about 10 mph, it does a wierd noise.. kinda like braa braa braaa, and gets slower. i just got new rotors and pads(2nd time). i dont know if its my caliper... i dont know know if my car has abs or not... i dont think so, but if i did, is there a difference in pads? any help would be great...

oh yeah... when im goin 60 and pull my wheel to the right it stops, and then starts back up when im goin strait or left

oh, i dont like the look to the forums.. do you?

Re: squeeking brake noise

sometimes there could be debris or dirt between the rotors and pads but it sounds like your caliper might be siezed up. does the handling feel different? car feel slower? does the car pull to one direction? one way i could tell when my calipers were siezed would go and feel the wheels after you drove it. if one is hotter than all the others then it is most likely that one.

Re: squeeking brake noise

You make it sound like there is noise ever with out brake applied. Have you checked other things like transaxles or a bearing?

Re: squeeking brake noise

the squeeking noise is pretty much constant, BUT the reason i think it is the brake is because when i press it down to a certain spot, the squeeking stops... like if i press on both the brake and the gas, keeping the same speed, the squeking stops... so it has to be the brake

the handling is the same, no pull whatsoever, still as slow as ever...lol...

if my car was abs and i put a non-abs pad on there would it make a difference? On my carfax report it said it had abs, but i don't think it does, is there any way to tell?

Re: squeeking brake noise

The ABS is easy for me to figure out in the northland. Just hit a patch of ice and hit the brakes, the pedal will pulse and there will be a noise as well, and the pedal will really feel funny. The actually brake assembly is not much different than none ABS.

Now the noise, a couple of things come to mind. One is bearings on one of wheels could be bad and the brake could offset the bad bearing and thus straighten the rotor and stop it from the noise. But I think another thought is the sticking or dragging of a caliper. They don't have to move far to stop the car and if it drags and does not relax then the noise could occur. The rotor on this wheel should be hotter than the others after taking her for a drive in the city and hitting the brakes several times. Feel them all and between more wear on one set of pads and hotter rotor you should be able to narrow which is the faulty caliper. Either replace it or use a big C clamp, some spray lube and put a board over the caliper and use the c clamp to compress the caliper. Remove the c clamp and gently tap the brakes to move the caliper out, but not too far. Spray the outside of the caliper and recompress. Repeat a couple of times and put her back together. You should compress the caliper before putting it back on.

Re: squeeking brake noise

Maybe their not aligned quite right and when you press the pedal down not all of the pad is making contact. That happened to my moms minivan, if so its a quick fix.

Re: squeeking brake noise

i figured out what it was... last time i changed my brakes, the little metal clips fell out that hold the pad in, i got new ones and the ones they gave me were the wrong ones, for a dx not ex... so i guess when i was driving one fell out so the brake was floppin around.... a little 25 DOLLAR FIX!!! $25 for 2 stupid bent metal pieces... stupid... oh well, im not embarrased about the squeeking anymore
