I have an older (1994) SHO. I replaced the original serpentine belt (W/AC) with a shorter belt (76 1/8") to bypass the AC system. In the proccess I had to remove the lower idler pulley because the bearings were noisy (and it would be in the routing path of the shorter belt). Can any one tell me if this is ok, or let me know if there is anything wrong with doing this? I see no problems and the car seems to work ok, however I just finished this job and want to be warned of any potential issues with this. Thank you for any help you can provide. Thanks

Re: converting serpintine belt to non AC 1994 SHO
Did you put overdrive pulleys on your Vulcan (if they even make such a thing)? If you just bypass the A/C compressor pulley, the other pulleys should spin at the same speed they always have since the pulley diameter remains unchanged.
Underdrive pulleys would cause the accessories to turn a bit slower due to the smaller diameter, which in turn decreases the amount of torque needed to turn the accessories. -Rod |
