Installed wrong oil filter............
I just got finished changing my oil and filter and as I was doing it I noticed that there was quite a difference in the size of the new and old filters. Now I see that there are two different filters for the focus, one for the 16 valve and one for the 8 valve model. I think the guy sold me the wrong filter. Will using an 8 valve filter on my 16 valve zetec cause any problems?
Thanks. J. |

Re: Installed wrong oil filter............
as long as ot screws up securly and desnt leak there shouldnt be any problems in theory...just make sure you get the correct one next time...
you can also ask for a escort Zx2, or SVT focus filter as they are all the same the fram part number is PH8316, im not sure of other brands

Thats true the Fram 8316 is one of three part numbers for the focus.
My ZTEC has that but many have PH3600 and also one more for the DurTec engines that I don't remember right off hand. I would not suggest trying to make do with the incorrect filter. For one the restrictions are diffrent and will cause a difference in oil pressure. Two the micron filteration may also be different. Having the oil not filtered enough is like putting sand in it because some of the oil passages are so small that they need every bit of git and grim out of the oil to not cause excessive wear. And three if the threads are not exactly the same, when the parts heat up there will be a bigger difference then than when they where cold, and could cause the oil to spill through the gasket.
