Quieter Exhaust for 98 Neon Sport

The Dodge Neon I drive was originally my Wifes car. I would never have bought a "sport" model with Automatic myself, but now that I drive it, I find I like it. I particularly like the sunroof, even though I have to help it open in close with a second hand.

There is one thing that really bothers me: Exhuast noise. Any trip of more than an hour leaves me with a headache.

Before anyone makes suggestions about Carbon Monoxide, there are no leaks in this exhaust system. The noise has been the problem since new, and an exhuast leak would have gotten worse over the period of seven years, to the point that the car would not pass PA state Inspection.

The stock exhuast has always been a little too loud for my taste from when it was new in 98. As a daily commuter, I can put up with it. I used to drive 80's vintage Accords which have double walled pipes and resonator. The accord exhaust was expensive to replace, but they were worth it ($680 for cat back, stock).

The Neon stock system is 7 years old, and 69K on it. It will probaly need a new exhaust system in the next year or so. I would be willing to pay extra to get less exhuast noise. When searching for Neon exhaust systems, they always seem to focus on getting more power. I would gladly trade some power for less noise. I would even replace the current working system a year or two early, to save my ears.

Put a bigger resanater on it, that should keep it quiet.
