For you oil fanatics....

head over to the BITOG site, Tallpaul found an article claiming that the new GF-4/SM oils are allowing more valve train wear then the old GF-3/SL oils.

Haven't really read into it yet, so I don't know what to make of it. Just thought you'd like to read it.

I remember the same type of scare about 15-20yrs ago when 5w-30 was becoming the norm. "You cant use that thin as water stuff, it will kill any engine!!" BITOG offers up some great reading. There's lots of experts there .

Yeah, that's for sure

I do believe in one guy there, think is handle is bruce38?? He's the one who e-mailed me stating that the rotella was a good oil to run in the Isuzu's.

I'll admit it took me awhile to be convinced that 5w-30 was ok to run. Still not too sure if I want to run it in the summer though, mainly because it shears back faster then a 10w-30.

However, the rodeo now has 2500 miles on the 5w-blend and has not used any. If it makes it to the 4k mark (oci interval now) without using more then 1/8 qt, I'll run it for the summer as well.

I'll second that. IIRC- he is the one that supposedly did/does the inspections of the spun bearing/thrown rod 3.2/3.5's that isuzu covers under warranty. He is also a 2002 rodeo owner!

Hmmm, I didn't know that. Cool!

Gotta tell you the more and more miles I get on this thing, the more I'm thrilled with it's reliability. Had thought for sure in the last year that if anything happened to it that I'd get a new Xterra or Toyota truck, but I'm finding myself curious more and more into the 2004 Rodeo's.

I know whacha mean. That DI 3.5L seems like the ideal setup. Solid auto trans w/ dipstick and drain plug, no EGR system and from the looks of the air intake, no MAF! All that & now they are gone.

Re: For you oil fanatics....

I'm actually very saddened at that fact.

I sure hope they come back as pure 100% Isuzu; none of this chevy crap.
