Re: Gas Mileage

I am looking to purchase basically the same, but with a standard transmission. I too am very interested in average MPG. I will be driving apprx 400 - 500 miles a week 250 of which being highway, so a real good mix of highway and city. Any input is greatly appreciated. I am currently driving an 02 trailblazer getting anywhere from 16 - 19, and am wondering if the 1500 6 cl, stnd, will be too painful.

Re: Gas Mileage

Rams are very heavy (5500 pounds or more), getting good gas mileage from any engine is pretty much out of the question. I've heard that the V-6 is so underpowered that it has trouble maintaining highway speed in OD, so the transmission has to shift out of OD a lot. I've driven a couple of RAM 1500's with the 4.7 Auto and the one with the standard 3.55 gears was terrible, it shifted constantly just to hold 60 mph with the cruise control on. The one with the 3.92 gears was a little better. The mileage on the road with the 3.55 gears was only 15-16. I didn't drive the other one long enough to get a mileage reading. Seems like it might have been a little better since it stayed in OD when cruising at 60mph.
