Right Turn Engine Hesitations

My 99 Buick Century has developed a problem of hesitating on right hand turns during accelleration bucking like a horse and if you accerlerate to much it will stall. It starts right back up though. This ONLY happens during right hand turns not left. It will however hesitate sometimes after a right hand turn stop when you accelerate from the stop but just once.

I've let this go on for sometime hoping that it would get worse or better or that the check engine light would come on, but neither has happened. I've replaced fuel filter, PVC, small things and added injector/engine cleaner and upped the grade of gasoline but nothing has made it better or worse.

I had a mechanic drive it and when he got out he said, "Man that's wierd, I haven't a clue where to start." It didn't sound like a finacially sound thing to leave it there. So here I am.

Re: Right Turn Engine Hesitations

Does it do this no matter how much fuel you have? Did the mechanic have it scanned for any possible codes?

It does it at any level of fuel, and no I haven't yet had them put it on the machine. I was told it probably wouldn't show anything since there was no check engine light.

Should be road tested with a fuel press gage attached to see if the pressure drops off when this happens.

Re: Right Turn Engine Hesitations

Hey T.Smith...I couldn't say if this is related and I'm sorry that I can't help further but one of the people on the Park Ave board posted a similar problem to yours.
Here's the link to the post - http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=506776 -
I don't know...maybe you can e-mail the original postee and see which wire was the problem wire. Maybe they are related. I hope this helps. M.

Re: Right Turn Engine Hesitations

I had the exact same problem with my 91 century but only on left hand turns instead of right.

I drove it for almost 3 months like that since nobody could figure out the problem.

I replaced the ball joints on both sides and the CV shaft on the driverside and the problem dissapeared.

Thanks for all the suggestions and I will slowly try them one by one until I fix it or sell it. Please continue with any ideas that you have I just have to budget them in. Thanks again for all that are and will respond.

You might checkout the hub/bearings which include the wheel sensors for the ABS and traction control system. Although you may not be getting any fault lights like SES, ABS or TRAC, it is a possbility. Check the wiring along the lower control arm and electrical connectors to the wheel sensors on each hub. Traction control will control the engine to limit wheelspin and that might explain your problem. The sensors can be ohmed out with a multimeter. Will read around 1K ohms.

On the older GM "W" bodies the wheel sensor was located on the axle shaft CV joints so that may explain why one of the posters had his problem resolved.

Re: Right Turn Engine Hesitations

Well, I weighed all the suggestions and all seemed possible but with no real time and no money to speak of to invest in multiple maybe's, I opted to change the front brake pads and rotors that needed to be done anyway.
Chang-O-Brake-O problem gone. I haven't got a clue why or how that would make a difference, But it's gone.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
