2002 Diamante VR-X ???

I saw this car parked outside a restaurant. It was a Diamante, but it had a rather large spoiler (large for a diamante) and some side-skirts. It also had the leters VR-X on the back.

I have never heard of this trim level, nor have I seen such a "sporty" looking diamante. Can someone give me the details of this car?

Its Mitsi's answer to HSV, or at least the SS Comodore and XR8.

I think thier a full 185KW from a tuned 3.5L V6 so thier by no means slow cars, with 0-100 in the high low 7s, and 15sec 1/4 times.

They then have a handeling package and brakes to suit the massivly increased hp.

The silly thing is they should be a lot faster, but the frount suspension is simply not capable of delivering that much power to the road, so they are fitted with a very agressive traction contol system.
Its switchable, but with out it any hard accleration simply shreds the tyres.
