cruise control lights

my cruise control lights on the left side of the steering wheel dont work the left side ..will it shows on-off the other side doesent

I had this problem on my brand new 2001 Ranger. I just bought at 2003 Mercury Sable with 10,000 miles yesterday and drove it 4 hours from Ohio. The right side of the steering wheel doesnt light up and the cruise control doesnt even work. IT SUCKED driving 250 miles back to Chicago w/o cruise control. Anyone have a fix?
