coil pack

4.0 V-6 164k miles

How does a failing coil pack react? I have an intermittent miss after changing the plug wires and plugs.

Make sure that all of your plugs are firing. If you have an inductive timing light, hook it up to each plug cable individually and press the trigger to see if the strobe is flashing (this is a poorman's scope). The one that's not flashing is the problem. Chances are that you did not press hard enough on the cable to make the connection at either the plug end or the coil pack end.

Thanks XLT03

After re-reading my post I see it is misleading. What I meant to say is this:

Around 160,000 miles an intermittent miss was apparent. The plugs are fine, they had been changed 10k miles previous. The plug wires were original. The wires were changed and problem went away for approximately 1000 miles and then returned.

I will go back and do as you recommended. If problem persists what else should I look for? How does a bad coil pack react?
