Re: MAP senser

the Manifold Air Pressure sensor detects the vacuume or lack of, and compensates fuel delivery based on a stoich (sp) baseline (14.7 psi or 1 atmosphere, what the air pressure is at sea level).

The closer to sea level you are, the more fuel the computer needs to add, due to the air being more dense. The higher you are above sea level (Denver for instance) the thinner the air becomes, so you need to burn less fuel or become rich in the mixture.

So yes, a malfunctioning MAP sensor will use more fuel, but, you would throw a code and get a CEL, if it does throw a CEL, a jumper pin or a quick trip to an auto store will help you to determine the problem for sure.
