Reports External Temperature 140F.

My 95 Park is reporting that the external temperature is very high, 135-140 degrees F. I could really care less, except that it seems to impact the climate control system. At 85 Degrees (second highest heat setting) it blows cool air. If i kick it to 90, the max, it blows hot air, at a high flow rate. So I'm assuming that the external temperature determines how hot the heat will be when i set the desired internal temperature. Does this sound like just a bad thermometer/temp sensor? Where would this be located? Is this something I could fix myself? What can I expect to pay? Thanks,

Re: Reports External Temperature 140F.

The outside ambient air tempature sensor does provide feedback to the climate control unit. It is located between the grill and condenser, near the bottom, and very simple to replace. Cost is about 15 bucks at Advanced Auto Parts. Part # AX27. Here is a pic of it;

It seems like many things I'd think are dealer only are available in the aftermarket at Advanced Auto, e.g., the Heater control module out on the blower box on automatic controlled systems, the ambient air temp sensor.

I know they have Delco remanufacturered alternators. I'm waiting for mine on 98 and 130K miles to go bad.

Are there other things they have that most of us wouldn't think they would have?
