Question 89 escort- where is the starter and solenoid?

I have an 89 ford escort gt (1.9 liter) with some starting problems.

I am trying to locate the starter and the starter solenoid to test them both. Could anyone with a similar vehicle tell me where in the engine compartment I might find these parts?

There is no noise when I turn the key. I have cleaned the terminals and I am testing the battery right now (I am pretty sure it works).
Any response would be appreciated.

On my 93 1.9L, it is located on the firewall side of the engine - about midway between the heater hoses. Normally - shaped like a big oil filter, silver on top, black on bottom and if original, may say Motorcraft. Normally, it is easier to put car on jack stands and unbolt from below, then pull it out from above.

Driver side fender for the solenoid. the starter itself is located at the front of the engine....look behind the cooling fan, and down, you'll see it. And look for about a 1.5 inch square black box/cylinder where all the major battery wires bolt to. That's the starter solenoid.
