Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
The fuse blow on #24 on my 97 blazer, I looked thru the Haynes book and could not find any thing, I asked my son and Law, w is a elec. and we tested and traced the wire. Came up with nothing. I tried to go on line and find some type of wire diagram, no look. I'm also getting (5) codes (P1860, P0785, P0740, P0753 snd P0758) after reviewing past thread I thing my Ignition switch is gone. I'm picked up a new one and planning to install this weekend. any comments
Thanks for any help... |

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
P1860 - TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit – Electrical,
P0785 - Shift Timing Solenoid P0740 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit P0753 - Shift Solenoid A Electrical P0758 - Shift Solenoid B Electrical You have some serious problems with transmission and or control module for your transmission. You amy have to take it to a transmission shop. I hate to give such bad news, but with the codes you have posted, your transmission is really bad. Thanks SC |

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
All those codes are to be expected if that fuse is blown, because it supplies power to all that stuff. Granted those are the codes normally tied to a faulty ignition switch as described in problem 3 in this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=461182 However in this case I would not be so quick to blame the ignition switch (it may very well be the cause, and it is extremely common on 97s). I would start by just replacing the fuse, reseting the codes and trying it out. If it blows again you will need to find the short. Normally the ignition switch causes those codes by not suppling power to the circuit, it doesn't usually cause the fuse to blow. Inspect the wiring going to the tranny for damage. |

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
The codes do not mean the trans is bad.
When the fuse is blowed it sets them codes. That fuse feeds the trans and solenoids and insturment cluster and the shift interlock solenoid. Does it blow the fuse when or as soon as you replace it? If so Unplug the trans wiring going to shift solenoids the big plug in going inside trans. And see if thats helps. Also unplug the shift interlock solenoid. If it still blows or shorts with trans and shift interlock unpluged dash is next. If fuse is blowing all time see if son in law has a short finder and put a same amp circuit breaker i n it and get adirection on short. I will look for some wiring on it and try to post back. The switch on 97 give a lot of problems but I do not think it will blow that fuse because of the ign switch bad. MT

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
Welcome on your first post to AF.
Here is a link to a pdf on trans wiring and power feeds for fuse 24. Copy off the wiring pdf's and Invite your son in law over to dinner. The feed to insturment cluster is the power for it but hard telling what it feeds inside insturment cluster. http://members.troublecodes.net/crunch/97fuse24.pdf Let us know how it goes. MT

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
Thank You for this help. I'll take the ignition switch back later. my son-n-law checked the wiring from the fuse to the transfer case (blow a fuse) checked the wire from the the fuse to the 4wd module (Blow a fuse) then checked the 4wd switch (blow a fuse) then checked wire, all seem to be OK. the other thing the blazer drive good other starting out I have to put it in 1st then overdrive and a lot of other things are happening e.g. clock stays on all the time, w.wipers come on when staring vic. and the keys did get stuck and would not lock back at park. I did finlly get it out and seams to work good now.
Any help whith this is much ap. |

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
My son-n-law tested all the things that was blowing a 10 amp fuse, we even tried a 20 and it blow. he said each component is working and testing fine.
Thank you MT-2500 the wire diagram will help, the book had nothing in it. If any one has any more suggestions, I will try all of them. Thanks again |

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
I posted the wiring pdf same time as you posted back.
Go back up and look the wiring diagram over. Do the shifting only act up when the fuse is blowed or all of the time? If it is blowing fuse all time it should be easy to find. Good luck MT

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
You might try unplugging the trans and the insturment cluster and the shift lock solenoid.
Or get a short test finder on it and trace down where the short is. Good luck MT

Re: Need help on fuse 24 (97 Blazer)
I think if you follow MT-2500's advise and disconnect the transmission wiring harness connector at the top right-side (passenger side) of the transmission, you will find the fuse will not blow - indicating a short in the internal trans wiring harness - usually caused by a pinched wire when the transmission pan was dropped and the filter replaced.
