angry sparrow?

i have a friend who told me the intermittent sqeaking in the front suspension of my 97 TJ during turns was the "angry sparrow"....what is this, and is he right? it started happening in the winter, so maybe it has something to do with the cold....

"Angry Sparrow" syndrome is fairly common in Wranglers and Cherokees. Its not related to the suspension though. Angry Sparrows is the sound you get when the CV joint in the front driveshaft dries out. It will start out happening only when its cold, if not fixed it will eventually become constant. If allow to happen too long the CV joint can be damaged and non repairable. A noisy CV doesnt have anything to do with the suspension or turning so I cant say for sure you have angry sparrows or not. If it only happens when you turn, I would think its more likely front brakes or suspension link related. Angry sparrows will be a high pitched rythmic sqeek that seems to be coming from right under the drivers feet. At first it may only be audible before the Jeep is warmed up or at low speeds. At least that was the case in both my 96 Cherokee and my wifes 99 Wrangler. Ive rebuilt the CV joint in both those vehicles.
