Harmonic Balancer - NO SCREWS, 3 SLOTS - HELP!

I was getting a balancer off a diffrent car and got stuck.
Its just like my car! it has 3 slots in the balancer.

I got the bolt off the balancer, by using a prybar and something in the fly wheel.

Problem, I can not get the ballancer to pop off.
I tried 2 puller tools from Autozone, checked Nappa they dont have it! Checked Pepboys they dont have it, Advance Auto Parts are completly lost!

The problem with the pullers I rented are they are too wide to fit in the slot! Even the smallest puller had a wide tip, and couldn't hook into the slot.

Now why is it so hard to get a puller that will fit?
how else do I get this balancer off without damaging it?
I want to re-use it on my car!

If you have a 93, it should have three 1/4-28 holes tapped in the front of the balancer spaced 120 deg. apart. Use 3" long 1/4-28 bolts to go through the holes in the puller with washers on the top. You need a puller like the one shown in the link below. The pre 91 balancer is not a "press fit"; it is a "slip fit" and will not work on the 93. If it does not have the tapped holes in the front, it is a slip fit!

Just went thru that this week myself. Auto zone didn't even know what I was talking about, like I was the only one with a 3800. I got mine back on last night but didn't tork down yet. Only have 30minutes a night . How do you know when it is tight?

Mine has 3 curve like slots....
Is the screw going into those slots? does it have thread in there?

Ive seen some balancers with the 3 screws, but like I said mine has slots. Its a 1993 Limited.
The car I was taking it off of, also is a 93, but a custom. It has the same 3 curve slots like I do.

Micker what year is yours?

If you go through the slots you should have threads down around the hub section. The slotted outside section is just the serpentine pulley.

The link below shows the "Lisle" puller (Manufacturer # 45300) designed specifically for the GM 3800 balancer, that Micker said he ordered. The $10.99 universal kit from Harbor Freight will do the same thing, you just have to be careful not to tighten the three bolts down enough to hit the sensor in back.(if it happened to be in that position).

It could be early signs of balancer failure. If it gets louder, or starts making a hammering sound, it's time for a new balancer.
