Thumbs down '88 4WS Power Problem

Driving home today I noticed the digital clock starting to lose power, as well as the instrument panel. The car started to lose power as well and the tach started flipping up and down and I started to misfire... and smelled RICH fumes. The check engine light came on and I got a code 14. Friends have told me that this may be bad battery cables or possibly a bad alternator (it was replaced last year ???). I've replaced the battery, recharged it, jumped it off, and it only lasts about 60 miles before it starts to die again. The weird thing is, usually it'll recharge and the lights go brighter above 3000rpm.

What the hell is going on???? Please help, thanks~

It's your ALT. I have worked at Advance Auto and have taken new "rebuilt" alt's and put them on the tester and they have been bad.
