Re: how reliable is it

As long as you take care of them and maintain them they can be as reliable as any other car. You can even have one that runs 13's (as long as its a Eclipse GST or GSX or a Talon TSi) and its still be a reliable daily driver. If you go with lower models like an Eclipse RS GS or Talon ES they won't have much power at all but they will be reliable.

Personally I would go with the GST GSX or TSi because they produce incredible amounts of power while still retaining reliability and good fuel mileage.

Re: how reliable is it

Not at all. On the turbocharged models, the stock internals can handle up to 400hp before needing upgraded.

If I were you, I wouldn't go higher than a 50 shot of wet.

You know what's going to happen right? You're going to end up focusing more on the Eclipse than your VW. It's inevitable.

Re: how reliable is it

Hmmm.... isn't a volkswagoan an import? Get a turbo, probably awd (depends on how serious you are) and then you will see the light. BTW I was looking at a summit catalog today and you can get a complete race engine rebuild, including new cylinders (they must have replaceable cylinders), and gaskets, for less than $300!!!!!!!

The DSMs were built right here in the USA, in Normal, Illinois and are not an import. Where was your VW built?

That has nothing to do with if it's an import or not. These cars are still considered imports. Ask an insurance company.

Re: how reliable is it

Well that has always been the debate hasn't it? If it's not imported then it's not an import. Period. I don't consider it anymore of an import that I do a talon, or a lazer. That is your and the insurance company's opinion. I was just making a point. The eclipse would not be his first import if he already owns a German car. I really do not want to get into this discussion. I should have known better than to post that because I know all you guys want to do is argue about everything, and I bet anything you won't let this go. I am done with it.
