Should I buy a 2000 Honda Civic Si?

Some people say go with the Spec V and some say go with the Civic Si. What do you guys think? I want to do lots of mods to this car and im not sure what car would be better. I know that aftermarket parts for the Civic are everywhere and the spec v is just starting out. I want to do lots of body work and engine work on it. Also, people tell me no matter how much money i put in the civic the spec v will always be faster. What do you guys think i should do. Also what types of aftermarket parts should i start out with. Thanks

Also, if i get the civic what engine swap would get the most out of my engine. Thanks.

Well the spec v has a couple of things going for it such as more torque and hp but from dyno runs that I have seen it really only produces like 141 hp and I forget the torque. It also has a lsd, nice rims, torque, fresh body style, nice seats, torque, 4 doors, 6 speed transmission and torque. What do you want in a car? Autocrosser, dragster, or just screwing around in town?

If your going to mod the car a lot, Y buy such a new car? The spec V is the most V-8 like 4 banger, lots of low end torque, 2.5L displacement (I cant think of a bigger 4), and a whopping 6200rpm redline. Does it even have any type of valve timing (ie. VTEC, VVT-i, VANOS)? Or is it simply big displacement. That car makes me sick. And you want the new small minivan civ Si? Or the '99 style? If I were going to do major mods, I would just buy a clean body/no accident/high mileage '92+ Civic Coupe(my fave) and build it up. So many body parts its not funny, GSR or Type R engine, or get a built one. Get a LSD equiped tranny, willwood or the likes big brakes, and a high end coilover set up, that would be a nice Civ.

Welcome to AF, fellow Illinois-ian!

From a tuner's point of view, I'll say this...

The 2000 Civic SI has LARGE support from the aftermarket as opposed to the SE-R Spec V. However, Nismo may make its presence known in the U.S. to support some Nissan cars (including the Spec V).
Or, is that unfounded?

Are you looking for a nice car or a fun car? My dad has a Spec-V and my Si is way funner to drive... however, his Spec-V is twice the car like CivSiGuy said... I'd still take my Si over it anyday just because the fact it's smaller, more agile, small displacement fun, and mine is faster

This is why I don't like hanging out with ppl who concern themselves *solely* with speed. They'll say ignorant things like "the Spec V will always be faster". U can make an Si kick anyone's ass, depends on how much money you want to spend on it. And for you to convert the Spec V into the same street demon, you'll basically mutilate a brand new car.

But I'm sure the Spec V has more cushyness and extras to it. Again, depends on what you want.

Yes, the SE-R has CVTC (not sure what it stands for)

I disagree, until Nissan brings out a SE-R Coupe or Hatch, the SI will be more car and a better car at that. Also you must take into account that, when dynoed the SE-R only produces 141 HP. The SI produces more than that.

Also you need to take looks into account. To me the SE-R looks like :apuke: :bathroom:

The si, on the other hand, looks fucking badass, especially the blue.
