I have a 01 Monte SS with 51,000 miles that I have had for about three weeks. recently the check engine light came on and at the same time the temp gauge quit working. I had the mechanic reset the light and the gauge started working as well. Maybe related when it is started in really cold weather it gives out a whine for about 30 seconds. It also sounds like there might be some bearings going after it is warm. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: check engine light/temp guage/whining
I have a 96 monte carlo had kind of the same issue. It had 51 k on it and next thing I knew the bearings were spun and I needed a new motor. The oil read fine on the dipstick but it seems that the oil switch was clogged and my engine was not getting any oil. Not that this is the problem with your car but I would have it checked out if I were you.
