96 Yukon turns won't start

For a couple of months it seemed the starter was trying to go out. It took more turn to get it to start up. Then 3 days ago I was out in the morning and it drove fine as usual. I came home pulled it in the garage turned it off went back a few hours later to leave again, and nothing. It would turn but thats it. You can hear the fuel pump when you turn the key for about 8 seconds or so then you can't hear it no more ( I assume this is normal?) My husband beat on the gas tank while I tried starting it and nothing. He also checked the spark and it was there. Now at a loss, any ideas? Would like to fix ourselves my husband is no mech. but has some experience with toyotas. He would like to try himself (as long as it isn't to difficult). Thanks!

Re: 96 Yukon turns won't start

They definitely have fuel pump trouble...make sure to put an AC DELCO one in if that is the problem. Check the fuel pressure...put guages on it. Make sure the pressure is good. It sounds like a bad pump, although it is weird that you can hear it run. could be something else. make sure you have pressure, though...maybe the pump is not pumping enough...could be a bad fuel filter, even.
