Repair difficulty estimate needed
My father has a 1992 F150. It needs a pan gasket and timing chain cover gasket. Shop wants $1000 for the job.
The leaking oil has completely covered the tailgate. Pretty funny. I leaned up against it the other day and ruined my coat. My question: This seems steep, how terrible would the job be to do my self? I have done pan gaskets in car on several other vehicles and have done full rebuilds twice. I know how to wrench. Is this job worth paying someone else to do it? Seems one has to lift the motor to get to the pan. Tough? How about the timing cover? |

Re: Repair difficulty estimate needed
but yes 1000 buxs is resonable for the job call me crazy but when i rebuilt the bottom end the ford dealer wanted 1500 to do it just because they had to pull the engine to do it says its crazy for 1000 buxs i'll juts pull the motor and install a new one so i did it my self at school for 200 buxs but took me 2 weeks because i had a class period a day to work on it
