The New GT500

Well guys it kind of seems like Ford is listening to you. the GT500 that was unveiled at the detroit auto show had 475hp up from the 450 estimates from before, and it is mated to a 6 speed manual. im not sure where the extra horsepower comes from, if they are still using the single screw or not. people on here were wishing it had more power and a 6-speed, now both have happened (i know the power increase isnt that much...) what are your thoughts? am i posting up out of date information?

i didnt see anything about the weight of the vehicle.

edit- ahh damnit, it seems jaguar d type already posted all this...

Re: The New GT500

It's a sweet car but it's defitnetly way to heavy and for the price it's out of the question. Look at the new z06 now that's one fast car and you cant beat the price.

Re: The New GT500

Has there been any change to the estimated 40,000 it was supposed to cost? I am not a fan of more weight but it only weighs a couple hundred more than the last cobra and its got 475 hp stock. Its also built more solidly than the last generation. I still like it alot.

Base GT500 will start in the low 40's, then gas guzzler tax, dealer charges. I hope everyone that gets one is ready to bend over and take it since the same thing that happend to the GT its going to the GT500.

Re: The New GT500

Well I am sure they will sell. They fill a niche right now. They really don't have any direct competition, other than the concept camaro and concept challenger that may come in the future. The new mustangs are selling like crazy and I know there will be people out there that will spend the extra to have the most powerful one out there.

Well actually they do. The market that Ford is going after is the baby boomers and most of them that buy cars in that price range get Vettes, SRT-8s, and so on. Cars that they wish they had growing up (Vette) and those that are more practical yet still have some kick (your SRTs). If they new Mustangs are selling like crazy why is that that at the Ford dealer next to where I work there are always at least 15 new ones and 5 used one on the lot? Remember what happened to the 04's? They built too many and the MSRP was so high they flooded dealers lots to the point they had to start selling them at list or under. Every day a car remains on the lot the profit margin that car makes at the time it sells decreases.

Re: The New GT500

i dont really think you can argue that the new mustangs are selling well... i dont have the numbers on hand but its kind of a given. the dealers dont want to run out so they order extra. the new mustang hasnt been out to much more than a year and i see tons of them, its doin pretty good. the rest of the car market is what ford needs to worry about selling, not the mustang.

Re: The New GT500

Like I said there are always at least 15 new ones and 5 used one on the lot. That means 1 in 3 ends up being traded in within the first year. That realy isn't good odds if you think about it. Sure it means sales but it also means a lot of people aren't happy with them for one reason or another. Odds like that tells me there must be something wrong with it. Only time will tell what that those problems really are when the newness of the car wears off and real review start coming in.

Re: The New GT500

not trying to argue your point at all, i just saw the top gear with the new mustang, while it may not be the newest episode idk, they said a mustangs average shelf life on a lot is 15 minutes. i thought that was pretty impressive, although not much else on their review was.

i think you have some valid points though. it could be people that bought a v6 and didnt get the performance they wanted, in that case they are idiots for buying that version. also whenever a new car model comes out there are always problems with it, a large portion of these trade ins could be people who are sick of finding the little problems of a new car. ive heard of this happening with the new cobalt, they had some serious problems at first. if i remember correctly it also happened with the focus its first two years. just some thoughts

Re: The New GT500

40k isnt bad...i hav a pic of an 06 Si set at 34k after 13k markup LOL

and the focus had MAJOR RECALLS lol
i do think the v6 mustang is under powered, a sporty v6 needs 230hp minimum now adays.

there are 7 used 05's total in 3 local lots, v6's and GT's

The one where Clarkson even says its "it's not a very good car"? Yea its old. Did you notice how when they reviewed it they had to take it out on the longest straight flat road they could find.

http://cec.wustl.edu/~ljm1/personal/...Mustang4-2.avi

I just found the first real review (and its a Clarkson review) of the 05's its nothing held back and even has a track test done at Laguna Seca. I couldn't agree more! This is the same impression I got when I test drove one.
http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/art...4313_1,00.html

"By European standards this car is rubbish. Its engine has wasteful, unused capacity that turns fuel into nothing, it couldn’t get from one end of a country lane to the other without running out of brakes and it handles like a newborn donkey.

So what’s it like to drive? Well, the previous day I’d taken it on a hard lap of the extraordinarily beautiful Laguna Seca raceway, which, because it’s the curliest track in North America, is regarded by racing drivers all over the world as one of the greats. Mansell. Villeneuve. Even Top Gear’s Stig go all misty eyed at the mention of it.

And frankly it was more than a match for Ford’s big daft horse. Its brakes were cooked by turn six; the final slow corner completely overwhelmed the live rear axle; and through the fearsome Corkscrew, which twists down a gradient so steep you can’t even walk up it, I’m afraid Mr Ed was about as pin sharp as a punt gun. "
