Temperature Gauge????

I have a 95 grand am gt with the 3.1. I just changed the intake gasket and everything seems to be working fine car runs great. Temp. seems to come up to normal operating temp. fan kicks in and works. The temp sensor is plugged in i checked and rechecked it but the problem is the gauge when i turn the key on it goes all the way ove past the hot mark and stays there the whole time. I took the cover off and set the gauge back to cold side turned the key on and back over past hot. Has this ever happend to anyone? Can anyone help? any suggestions would be greatly apprecieated. Thanks

Re: Temperature Gauge????

there are two temp sensors in you car. One is for the guage, one is for the computer. In the rear cylinder head, near the drivers side, you will see a sensor with a green wire, that is the one that operates your guage. It is either disconnected, shorted out, or the wire got cut. The guage will go to full hot when either the sensor is disconnected/shorted, or when the sensor is not submerged in coolant (like when there is an air pocket in the motor or the coolant is low). The two-wire sensor near the t-stat is for the computer.
