Need help with oil leaking problem from oil filter plate fitting thing.

My wife's GMC Jimmy 1993, started leaking oil like crazy. I climbed underneath the car tonight and found the oil was leaking from where the oil plate fitting is (by the oil pan) that leads to the oil filter (remote filter???) up at the front top of the engine bay by the air intake.

The gasket in the plate fitting must be hosed and I'm not sure how to get to it. The transmission is in the way. I've tightened the two accessible bolts on the bottom of this plate, but the bolt that faces towards the front of the car looks like it would be nearly impossible to get to without lifting out the engine or having some sort of crazy flex socket extension and coming in from the radiator area(assuming you could wrangle it over the transmission).
I'm not really sure how to access this? It's right above the transmission
and there's no room for hands or tools.

I also don't know what this gasket is called and so wouldn't know what to buy to replace it. Does anyone know of a walkthrough for this kind of fix, or what the gasket is called? Has anyone else encountered this before?

You sure it's not the lines themselves? (normally it's the lines, not the mount itself)

as in the lines or the gaskets going to the lines?

The lines looked to be aluminum...I'm surprised the lines would crack????

Or are you referring to the gaskets that feed the lines?

In that case I really don't know...I can tell the drip is coming from the front side of the fitting where the hoses attach to the plate fitting, but I am assuming it was the circular plate gasket and not the hoses.

Either way the problem is a bear - how do you get tools up in there?

Could be the hoses, I know mine leak at the top where the filter is, you might need a socket and long extension to get at it from the front by the power sterring.

Where they leak at is where the rubber portion meets the crimped aluminum... Can almost gurantee that's it... You're gonna need to replace the lines themselves not the fitting gasket on the block itself..

Question Re: Need help with oil leaking problem from oil filter plate fitting thing.

How hard is it to replace these two sets of lines? I bought the lines, now I just need to install them. 2000 Jimmy 4X4.

Not difficult... For the rear one you will need an extension and a swivel to pull the center bolt. BTW, did you get the crush washers with the new lines?

I hope I did, I haven't opened the package up yet. I'm still recouping from the push bar install.

There are 2 orings between the adaptor and the block. Take off the lines by reaching socket in from front. Remove adaptor from below, and replace the orings. If I went that far, I'd replace the lines at same time, cause if they're not leaking now, they will leak later.

Re: Need help with oil leaking problem from oil filter plate fitting thing.

someone said that the engine had to be lifted up about 3", is this true? How hard is it to replace the lines going to the cooler/radiator?

Has anyone ever put a larger oil filter on there trucks yet? Just curious.

Peace

Re: Need help with oil leaking problem from oil filter plate fitting thing.

You should not have to lift the engine on a 1993. It is not too hard to do, but does take some patience. Use long socket extentions and work from the front with the skid plate removed.
