My New Front End Modification

I'm feeling like being in a sharing mood...

This isn't exactly the mod I would have liked but my wife took things into her own hands and modded my truck - with the back end of a Silverado 2500! This past Fri night my Wife was picking up our son from ski club at the school. it was a bit icy and the stop sigh at the school is at the bottom of a little hill. She wasn't going more than a couple of mph if that and came to rest on the bumper of a 2500. The guy in the other truck stopped and decided not to get out but to just leave (mind you it's midnight in the country) - I have an idea who it is and I'll bet he had a few drinks in him. Not to mention he owns a Chevy dealership and the truck isn't really his. It really didn't matter damage-wise that he didn't stop since technically it's my wife's fault but at least the dick could have checked to see if she was all right!
It's amazing how much damage can happen @ <5mph but it's just like real estate - location location location. I just found out from the shop that it's gonna run over $2600. Bumper, lights, grill, core support, fender and the door. The good news is the annoying scuff mark on the door will be gone(from the previous owner than let the broken side mirror dangle instead of clipping it up). At least no one was hurt. Now if I could only get her to stop apologizing!!!

Did a quick search and retail for a 98 with 81K miles is $6500, I do not think I would put $2600 in it and get a ding on my insurance. I bet a small collision shop could get that looking good if you paid on your own for about $1500. If you are handy you could probably get junkyard parts for under $600 install yourself and have someone shoot paint for $300.

That sucks, man. I feel for ya. At least everyone's alright.

Time to take back all her Christmas presents to pay for repairs.

Thanks. She said she was a terrible wife - for Christmas she got diamonds and then went and f'ed up my truck. I'll make her pay in other ways.... LOL!

As for doing it myself- yea I could probably do it. I've done similar work but parts around here are tough to come by and there is even less time. Cash is the third part of the equation I don't have. Since I plan on having the beast for at least 2 more years I might as well get her fixed. I have a good relationship with my insurance company so this won't be a problem. They stand to lose a bunch of money if they dump me.
