no, with my 3rd gen, i spliced the wires from the amps and took them straight to the speaker. of course they came from an aftermarket HU.
to get a new set of speakers in there is a job, you will need to replace all speakers and head unit. or you can buy a replacemtn speaker.

or get a line output convertor. search for threads on bose radio's. it's been discussed before.
