minor odometer problem

One of my other problems on my car when we purchased it was that the odometer was kind of jerky, let me try to explain this. Instead of moving at a slow/steady rate, it would kind of stop, then jerk to the next number. We told the dealer about the problem, they said they fixed it, but it still happens every now and then. I really dont think its a problem with someone tampering with the odometer. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem on a 97 grand prix/gtp.

Re: minor odometer problem

It's fairly easy to tell if the odometer has been tampered with. If you can see shiny silver lines between the numbers, your odometer has been changed/tampered with. Jerky operation is fairly common on electronic GM clusters, so as long as the silver lines aren't there, you should be fine.

My trip odometer is jerky, however, it's still accurate.
