4WD Problems

Hi everyone!

I have a 4.3L 1995 Blazer.
Less than a year ago I had 4WD problems and I took it to my local GM dealer to get it fixed. My 4WD was not working at all. They replaced the transfer case and everything seemed to work fine. Well, just recently I went to put it in 4WD and the Hi light kept blinking, then I tried Lo- same thing. The lights will blink, but then sometimes will say that it went into 4WD and stay lit. Problem is, 4WD is not working. It sounds like it is dropping into 4WD.

Can the transfer case go bad again that fast? Or are there other things that could be the cause of this that I should try to fix first before bringing it in.

Just trying to save myself another huge bill! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It could be a vacuum line, your actuator motor, or a bad switch. Is you 4x4 a push button, or do you have a shifter to put it in 4 wheel drive.
Need more in info.

Click on the link above and look at all of those threads and see if it has any like yours, and tell us which one and we'll try to figure it out. There are so many things it could be, But we should be able to narrow it down. The more we know, the better advice we can give.

1st Check vac actuator under battery tray for tears, or leaks, and that the vac hose is connected. Replace if found

2nd Check vac hose leading from vac actuator to vac switch on transfer case for cracks and dry rot. Replace if found.

3rd Check remaining 2 hoses from vac switch on transfer case for dryrot or cracks Replace if found.

If all of the above are fine, disconnect your negative battery cable for 1/2 hour then reconnect it. If your 4x4 works after that you probably have a failing TCCM (Transfer case control module)

If that doesn't solve it, it's most likely the encoder motor.

Thanks guys for all your help. I am hoping to get some time this weekend to take a look at it. I am really frustrated with my Blazer and thinking about selling it. I have had nothing but problems with it!
