Re: 98 s-10 looking for lower intake r and r schematics
trick 1: throw that felpro shit away, because the gaskets are no longer plastic, they are aluminum
trick 2; a factory service manual is the only thing as detailed as what your asking for, you have to peel the wiring harness out of the way, remove the plastic plenum, then the lower intake, clean it up good, and put the GM gaskets and bubble back on... sorry if i sound like a jerk, dont mean to sound that way, this is a serious job, we do several a week, and it takes me and my cousin up to 8 full hours, 2 licenced machanics in the best of atmospheres, a long ass time (some of our time comes in the fact our work is warrentied, and we can miss NOTHING on tear down or build up) for any job, but if you mess up it realy screws the hootch. |

Re: 98 s-10 looking for lower intake r and r schematics
I just did this on my 97 s10 4x4. It took about 6 hrs including the drain/refill of the coolant.
I did use the felpro set; decent stuff and has been fine for about 2000 miles so far. Remove all the heater hose connections to the lower intake, remove all of the sensor wires and move them aside. I like to mark each one with numbered tape or colored tape; however, they are each unique so you could skip that step. De-pressurize the fuel system and disconnect the lines near the firewall. You DO NOT have to remove the upper intake from the lower to remove the unit. Unbolt the lower intake and remove carefully. Clean all the gasket surfaces (make sure you cover the lifter valley while doing this so that gasket crap doesnt fall into the crankcase. Assemble the gaskets to the heads, put black RTV on the front and rear block lips then install the manifold assy. Use thread sealer on the bolts. Torque to spec and reconnect all of the hoses/lines/wires in reverse order. I would and did change the oil as mine was leaking internally and I wanted to make sure that no small particles were left behind. Refill with coolant and test drive. Good luck if you havent already done this. |

Re: 98 s-10 looking for lower intake r and r schematics
What is meant by the statement "you DO NOT have to remove the upper intake from the lower to remove the unit"? I've just started this job and I'm wondering if I need to remove the upper intake plenum. If not, do most people do this to replace the upper gasket?

Re: 98 s-10 looking for lower intake r and r schematics
Thats odd I had to take the plenum (upper intake) off to get to five bolts that hold the lower intake to the heads. It took me about 6 hrs aswell to do the job. First time too.
