Not that I know of. However, you can be pulled over for making too much noise with your stereo or exhaust now under very recent legislation. How loud "too loud" is defined by the police on the spot - fine plus 2 points gone.

Meanwhile, Harleys can still make all the noise they want

Maybe that's what your friend was talking about?

Whatever the cops want it to be I'm afraid. No measuring equipment needed - if they deem it too loud then it's too loud

Prepare to lose that argument people

Here we go - proper wording:

"Two demerit points will be taken off the drivers licenses of people who drive cars causing 'excessive noise', 'unecessary smoke' or with stereos causing 'offensive' noise."

You have about 12 points in total I think... so yeah and it takes a few years for you to get your points back, once you've lost them.

Ofcourse I have been lucky (touch wood) thus far, to not have lost any points.

I know at one stage, my dad was down to like 2 points, cause he did a few red light cameras, and speeding fines.

lost 4 points (out of 4) when I first got my P's. Damn I was good for the next 12 months.

Since then copped a few bookings, then got my gold licence, then lost 3 for speeding on the Hume... hopefully that will clear before I renew my gold.

If I had renewed my license yearly, then I could have got my gold this year, but doesn't matter, I'll be getting it beginning of Feb next year.

There is nothing more annoying than cars running around with loud exhausts.
