agreed. harness, pcm, all mounts, axles... waste of money. put another 2.0 in it and drive it for another 150K miles.

Re: how hard is it to swap 4 cyl to a v-6
I have a 95 626 with the V-6. It pulls like a champ when it's running right. Perhaps you have more patience than I? I just put in a new rack and pinion. It has all new belts including timing. If you're interested, let me know.

Re: how hard is it to swap 4 cyl to a v-6
I too am thinking of doing an I-4 to V6 motor swap....any info or tips?
On a related note, i'm thinking of putting the turbo (and all the related equipment) from an 88' MX-6 in my current 4 Cyl. Anyone else do this at all? |

Re: how hard is it to swap 4 cyl to a v-6
If you decide to do a swap, go with an engine called "KL-ZE" These are more reliable and stronger engines. The stock V-6 give about 165HP, while these ZE's can put out over 220HP if you know how to set them up corectly. Once set, you can praticly run to the ground and start right up! I love these engines! (If you know what your really doing and know a good few people with connection, I'm sure you can get over 300HP! I heard of a few but I can not say if they are ture).
As far as swapping, engine, tranny, axels, and ecu are your main issues. You'll have some minor ones but theyll should be easy. Personally, if you have a manual tranny, GO FOR IT!!! If it is an auto tranny, your better of with a differnt car.

Re: how hard is it to swap 4 cyl to a v-6
Sorry for late reply,
Anyways, I do not know much about the '91 models. But I belive little of it is the same, I think. But putting a newer impala engine in there would be a pain in the arse! As most people already know, these cars are the same as a ford probe. So sticking a GM engine in there would be hard as hell!As far as how much a KL-ZE engine costs, check on eBay. Just make sure that it is a ture ZE engine. Send me a PM and I'll show ya site that will help you out with finding out if it is a true ZE, plus some more performace tips.

Re: how hard is it to swap 4 cyl to a v-6
Also, If anyone has the Idea of putting a turbo on the ZE engine, DON'T! You'll be wasting your money. A ZE can burnout at 4psi, while the DE (stock) can handle 12psi easily.
Edit: Just to let you know, if anyone is thinking about the 300hp+ range. It does not matter what engine you have. By the time that you replace all the stuff needed to handle all the Hp, it'll be a new engine all together. The only differnce between theese engines are that one is designed for the extra HP. Other than that, they are exactly the same.

Re: how hard is it to swap 4 cyl to a v-6
Well,
If you got a drill, metal, cutting tourch, and some welding skills. Then you can attach the V6 motor mounts just fine. YOu'll have to move some mounts around, add more mounts. And some mounts just need to be replaced so it can handle the V6. The best thing that you can do is drop the motor in and see how well they line up. Some will just need the v6 version of the mount. And if you see one missing, you'll have to add it. Since I am not currently doing this myself, it would be nice if somebody took the time and noted this for everyone. For example, what mount needed moved, what one needed added. If I could get a hold of a I4 I could be able to look myself. I will do my best to see what the manual says. I'll get back to you guys when I do. If somebody beats me to the puch. please post. Also just wanted to let ya all know. The trannys from a 4 to a 6 have differnt bolt patterns. So, just to let ya know. Kinda figured it was a little important.
