Question Opinion on Laser

I might be able to aquire a 1991 Plymouth Laser RS at a very reasonable price. Anybody want to give me any information on this car....HP? how it responds to mods, is it fast stock? Is it a totally brutal car that I shouldn't even consider? Any information would be appreciated...

Which RS is it? There is an 8v SOHC 1.8l w. 92hp. A 16v DOHC 2.0l w/ 135hp. And a 16v 2.0l, Turbo DOHC w/ 195hp.

I'd say it would respond pretty well to mods. I wouldn't buy any accept the turbo model. With the turbo model, you could expect some pretty good gains out of Intake, Exhaust, Bleed Valve, and perhaps up pipe. Or just skip the bleed valve and buy a boost controler if you don't want to be dodgy about it

how much would a turbo laser run for(assuming in decent condition). and arent they notorious for having major drivetrain problems???

it's an eclipse/talon
it will respond to the exact same mods as a talon and eclipse of first generation heritage, and it will be marginally faster because it weighs the less out of the three (by 30 lbs)
as long as it's a turbo it can't be that bad

Yup, it's the best out of any of the three DSM's. But, like the other two, only if you get the turbo AWD model. Which is where the problem lies with this situation.

The laser had only one disadvantage to the talon and the eclipse, it didn't have an AWD model until 1992. So, i suggest you search a little more until you can find a 92 RS AWD. It's got the same power, doesn't weigh much more really, and AWD is infinetly superior to FWD in all ways.

Ok.....it's the RS Turbo with the 2.0L 16V DOHC..........picture of it atthe bottom......... it's got 224 000 kms......which is about 140 000 miles .......can get it for $2995 Canadian......which is about $1950 US...
Good deal or bad deal? I think it's a pretty good deal

I'd go for it, sounds alright to me.

As for the AWD vs FWD, I'd like AWD better, the only dissadvantage I can think of is a FWD will have more power at the wheels then an AWD... But still, better traction in all situations so I'd take a day or two and look around to see if you can find a 92 AWD turbo for close to the same price.
