I am having some problems with my 1992 Tercel. Its one of those 1.5 liter, manual transmissions. While accelerating, especially in third gear, the engine pulsates. The car jerks back and forth. I turned off the heat and it helped the car just a little bit. So I really dont know whats happening. Can somebody give a component that might need to be replaced?

I had that same problem years ago with an old Pontiac Sunbird. Turns out it was a bad spark plug wire. It was arcing. I replaced the wires, and it ran like new. Wait till it's dark outside, start your car and open the hood. Look closely at each spark plug wire and see if you see any arcing, no matter how slight it might be.

Re: 92' Pulsates while accelerating
Possibility check the fuel pump if in tank application its kinda hard to check. tturn car on put ur head under car next to gas tank and listen for a humming sound to see if ur pump is working. If you have acess to a fuel pressure tester hook it up to the test port on fuel filter and check operating pressure(the car is on) and record reading.then check regulated pressure(pull of a vacuum line off ur fuel regulator) and record reading. Then do Dead head pressure ( pinch off the return line fron the fuel regulator) and should be double of operating pressure record reading. If not double of operating pressure you have a weak pump. Do not do if the fuel system is returnless system. also check fuel volume ( on gauge there is or should be an extra line<clear hose> with a valve on it stick the hose in a empty container and hold valve open for about 10 seconds you should have fuel flow coming out of the hose stop it and check how many ounces it is if it is about * ounces your pump is fine. Hope u fix the problem good luck.
