Cobra vs Supra

Cobra:

Long tubes
Catless X pipe
Some CAI
GT40 heads (stock, right?)
Some other shit
Ran a 13.7 @ ???mph before LT and X-pipe

Me:
3” catback and gutted 2.25” cat

My buddy sold his 92 GT for a 94 (or 95, which ever was the last year for the 5.0) Cobra. He is always laughing and saying that I’ll never beat him, even when I get some mods done. I try to tell him, but he wont have it.

So anyways we are going to a friend’s house and get on the freeway. We are just crusin at 60mph with light traffic in front of us. As soon as we get a break he pulls up next to me and I can see his passenger smiling at me, so I drop it into 3rd and wait. He doesn’t make a move so I give it just a weeee bit of gas and I hear him downshift. Right then I floor it and the race begins.

A second later my boost gauge shows 8psi steady and surprisingly…neither of us is pulling. 90mph comes along and I slam into 4th (still no working tach) and he gains a car on me because of his longer gearing. I take it up to 110 and shut it down because of some cars ahead, with him about a car and a half in front.

I was surprised at how well I did. It was about 40deg that night and my car was running really good.

Re: Cobra vs Supra

Nah man, I couldn't make it to CMI. I heard it was hella crowded, like 400 people.

I have a boost controller, but it is only hooked up to read boost right now. I could hook it up but its a pain.

what kind of boost controller is it? most of them is not that hard to hook up, esp if its already hookedup to a igntion source and can read boost already.

Re: Cobra vs Supra

My car was originally an N/A with the “Sport” package, so Toyota gave it the 4.3 LSD to try and make it not as slow. I’m not sure what kind of gearing stock Cobras have, but I know it’s much longer than that. Keep in mind this is a 91 Supra, not a MkIV.

I have a Profec B-Spec 2 hooked up, I just need to connect the vacuum lines. There is so much stuff in the way that you almost have to have ninja hands to get to the actuator.

Re: Cobra vs Supra

Not sure what the gears were stock in the 94/95 cobra but my friend has a 94 Cobra with 3.73's and it still hit 150 no problem. I am assuming that the gears were even taller stock.

Good kill. I've been looking for an mk3 supra. Do you have the 1jz-gte or the 7m-gte.

Re: Cobra vs Supra

Nice run. From his times that you stated up top, he must be a good driver, cause that generation of mustang was rather heavy.

Re: Cobra vs Supra

You have to stop being lazy and properly install your boost controller and tach.
