95 Grand Voyager Oxygen sensor & OBD Problem

I just bought a 95 Grand Voyager and the engine light is on so I did the OBD and I got the following codes: 21 32 & 51 I know they have to do with the oxygen sensor and something with the egr but its all new to me. The van does run good but I am smelling the cat coverter. Can someone tell me what I need to do or replace... Thankyou, Duckman28

Re: 95 Grand Voyager Oxygen sensor & OBD Problem

Welcome to AF!

First thing to change is the O2 sensor that is probably what is causing the car to run bad and causing you to smell the cat. (Code 21)

Code 32--Check the EGR valve, vacuum lines and EGR electrical connections. The computer is not seeing any change when the EGR is activated.

Code 51--Oxygen sensor issue. Replace!

Once you replace teh O2 sensor two of the codes should go away. The other shouldn't be too hard to correct, just check the vacuum lines and wiring.

It sounds like you have a bad or malfunctioning EGR valve. The Ox sensors may be good but can't handle the pollution from the bad EGR valve causing the Ox sensors to run rich or lean all the time.

The EGR valve is vacuum activated so a bad vacuum hose could be the problem and causing the egr valve not to open
