E150 4.9 v6, how do i replace the distributor

Replaced a falling apart rotor the other day and now i am not getting spark out of the coil (try another good one already and relaced the fuse)
So i am sure a part of the rotor got into distr. and broke it.

Im going to get a junk yard one but i am not sure how to swap them since all my experance is with non distrbuitor card

ONe thing is for sure! You have to make sure you know the exact position of the distributor BEFORE you remove it. Mark it with something you can easilly see using the vacuum diafram as a point of reference. There is one bolt that holds the distributor in place. It's just below the distributor going toward the front of the van. POsition is the key. Otherwise, you'll have to go through finding top-dead-center of the #1 cylinder to re-establish firing order. kBe sure to also to mark the position of the rotor and match it up on the new distributor.

Re: E150 4.9 v6, how do i replace the distributor

There is no 4.9L V-6.

There are TWO 6 cylinder engines:

1) 4.9L I6 (formerly called the "300-6"), which is the best damned engine EVER.

2) 4.2L V-6 (long stroke 3.8L POS engine).

Removal of the dist. on the I6 is easy.

1) Remove dist. cap.
2) Using a "magic marker" mark the dist. where the rotor is pointing (like 1 o'clock for example).
3) Detach wires from dist.
4) Remove dist clamp bolt and clamp.
5) Pull and twist it out.

Installation is reverse of removal, but MAKE SURE the rotor is pointing to the same spot on the new dist once it is fully seated (you can rotate the dist about 1" either way to line it up if need be).
