glove box light

I noticed the light in my glove box stays on when the glove box is closed because i can still see the light through the crack, would that be a switch problem or something with the glove box door?

there is a button switch that the glove box door contacts to turn the light off. It could be the switch is bad or the door is out of alignment, causing the latch to catch before the door hits the switch.

This was a poorly engineered design.

It did the same thing on my '97 GP. The problem is the door doesn't close enough to push the switch in far enough to shut off the light. Open the glove box and you'll see next to the yellow button to open the trunk will be a black pin that you can push in. Push it in and you should see the light go out.

If this is the case, what you can do is stick one of those rubber pads you use on cabinet doors to keep them from banging when you shut them on the glove box door aligned with the switch. They're about 3/16" thick and just enough to push the switch in.

Adjustment of the door/latch might be possible but everything looked straight on mine and I had one of those rubber buttons handy so I just stuck that in there.

The 97-up regal vanity mirrors w/ lights have the same problem.

Just small details their engineers don't seem to care about...

i have this same problem...i just hope that it doesnt get caught on sometime when my car sits for a prolonged period where it drains my battery

The Grand Prix's retained power accessory module will kill the light after so many minutes to eliminate the possibility of it killing the battery.

yea i kinda figured that since my battery isnt dead yet from that happening, that seems like a good idea though about the rubber pad, im gonna go ahead to see if the door is on straight, then ill put a pad on, thanks again everyone for your input!
