Warning Lights

97 5.0
I noticed my "Check Engine" light and brake warning
light doesn't light up when I turn the key to "RUN"
Is there anything I can check before I take it to dealer?
When I bought the truck a year ago the check engine
light came on when the tranny went. The place I bought
it from replaced trans and the light was out but I didn't
think to check it. I'm not sure if it worked since then or
if it failed recently. Thanks

Re: Warning Lights

I guess the first thing would be to yank the cluster and check the bulb.

Re: Warning Lights

kenny1907 is possibly right but the easy thing to do
is have the transmission shop chk with there scanner in front of you' they might have something to hide that they cant fix and a lot of times shop will pull the bulb if they get a response with the scanner.then the bulb is missing or blown. either way you need it to alert you when you have a problem.

Thanks,
I never had contact w/ the trans shop. I had the truck only
a couple days before I took it back to the place I bought it
because of the engine light and the 1st to 2nd slamming.
They took it to a trans shop who rebuilt tranny & repl. TC.
I will try to get at the bulb to check it out before I take
it to the dealer.
