V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

Hey guys, I just got my V10 running properly. Now it's time to play with the exhaust. In my trouble shooting, I removed the Catalytic convertors, and the muffler. The cats were rattling, so I'm not putting them back on.

So far, I built an "H" pipe and installed (2) Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. It's not too loud, but I don't have any tailpipes on it yet. Its louder in the cab than outside.

Has anyone on here done any experimenting with "X" pipes or anything else with the V10's?

Hey all, I need someone to try out the Dynomax #17552 Muffler on the V10. It's got dual inlet / outlets with a built in "X" pipe. I didn't find out about it until I put a pair of the Dynomax super Turbo's on mine. I built my own "H" pipe. It's not too bad, but it still sounds more like a diesel.

I called my local muffler shop, and I can get it for around $120.00

No tailpipes yet, I'm looking for the right sound before I finish it.

Re: V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

Hey Duck,
I have a V10 as well.
Tuned the $&#@ out of it, and am only getting 9-10
miles to the gallon. What are you getting?

Hey dbfordtech, I just got mine running right, and I still have a "Check Engine" light on. So I don't have good handle on the mileage, yet.

I went ahead and ordered one of those mufflers from Dyomax, I'll let everyone know how it turns out. I also just put on my 33x12.50's, so I don't imagine that's going to help my fuel economy. :-)

I plan on going back to a more standard tire soon, as soon as I can find some decent wheels for it.

I'll let you know what I end up with.

Re: V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

Well, I got my muffler in yesterday. I can't wait to get it put on and hear it. It has internal "X" pipe inside. Pretty neat. I'll get it installed this weekend, and let everyone know how it sounds.

I'm getting about 10mpg right now, but I still have the "Check Engine" light on. The scanner at Autozone says it's the right side o2 sensor. We'll see.

Wow!! If anyone is looking for exhaust mods for the V10, that Dynomax muffler is awesome. Great rumble, and doesn't have the "slant 6" sound. I'm getting my tailpipes installed today, and I plan on getting some sound clips soon.

Re: V10 Exhaust - And fuel mileage report

Well, got the tailpipes on, and it sounds great. Mileage isn't great, but with this much power, it's worth it. My last truck was a 5.9 with 3:55 gears, it got a little better mileage, but pulled like a slug. Always in and out of O.D.

I'm getting about 12mpg all the time. We went 240 miles last week. 1/2 empty, and 1/2 pulling a 5000 lb gooseneck horse trailer. Mileage was the same both was. Running 65-70 mph, both ways. I expected it to drop pulling the weight, and with the added wind resistence, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm happy. :-)

As configured:
98 QCab, 4x4, 108,000 miles
V10, Auto, 4:10 gears
33x12.50x16.5 tires
No Cats, Dynomax Dual inlet / outlet muffler

Pulls like a tank, 12 mpg average.

If anyone wants to hear sound clips of my truck with the Dynomax muffler, let me know. I can post links to the sound files.

Re: V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

Hey Duck,
I'd love to hear you truck. I would like to make my V-10 sound better.
Did your truck have a factory air pump? And if it did, What did you do with
the Air pump lines that run to the Cat??
If you like, you can send the sound clips of your truck to [email protected]
If you can, throw in a couple of photos of your truck....(and maybe a pic of the exhaust...(hint hint))
Thanks.

Re: V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

Hey Fordtech, I didn't forget about you. I was going to get the clips done this weekend, but with a high of around 15-20 degrees, I decided to wait. I'll try and get them done this week. I haven't gotten any pics yet either, the truck has frozen mud all over it. I didn't want to wash it yet, all the doors will freeze shut. My wife cleaned it up last week, but my driveway was so muddy that it got pretty well splattered just coming home. I need fender flares - BAD!!!!

Ahhh, winter in Ohio.... :-)

Re: V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

OK, I finally got some decent pics. Here are the links to the pics.

I've also got the sound clips, but I've got to figure out how to get them on my PC. I'll post links as soon as I get them uploaded.

It's configured as duals to the Dynomax muffler. (That muffler has dual inlets and outlets, with en internal "X" configuration.) No cats, and 2 1/2 pipes to the tips. Tips are angled 45 degrees on the corners.

We pull a gooseneck horse trailer, and I didn't want it blowing right into the trailer. (Well, my wife didn't anyway.....)

I just left the air pump lines blowing out the back for now, I plan on experimenting with that later. :-) I tried unhooking it under the hood, but you could hear it buzzing / blowing while driving.

I'll get the sound clips soon - I love the sound.....

Re: V10 Exhaust - Opinions?

Sorry for the delay, I finally got the wave files done. Here are links to pics, and the wave files. I'll get some pics of the underside exhaust soon.

I'll post some body pics too, we've added more stuff to it since these pics.

I have 2.5" true dual with 36" glasspacks. It's loud when you get on it, or when your standing behind the truck, but quiet in the cab.
