Keyless Entry Programming not Working

2001 Pontiac Montana

I followed the steps supplied at the top of the forum. I will notate what happens as I go through them:

Perform the following steps in order to program the transmitter:
1. Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.

OK. No Problem.

2. Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse from the fuse panel.

OK No Problem.


3. Close all of the doors.

Good on that one.


4. Close the liftgate.

It wasn't open.


5. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to ACC.

I get four dings of the door chime (which seems to be located under the dash on the left side near the steering wheel)


6. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second.

Now I get a new chime. Sounds like it's coming from the right side of dash near the fuse panel. Also, the SEATBELT LIGHT flashes each time the chime sounds.

I get:

1 chime
pause
2 chimes
pause
8 chimes
long pause

then it repeats

then it repeats again


7. Open and close any vehicle door. A chime will be heard when the system enters the BCM programming/diagnostic mode.


If I open a door BEFORE I let the above process complete 3 times, nothing happens.

If I open a door AFTER all the chimes above sound then I get one chime when I open the door and one chime when I close the door.

Nothing else.

Important
After 7 seconds, a chime may be heard confirming successful synchronization. It is necessary to wait approximately 14 seconds for a second chime that will confirm successful programming.

8. Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 14 seconds.

I did this. I held it for 30 seconds. I held it for a minute. I held it for 12 seconds and 20 seconds and 45 seconds.

I never got another chime out of this car again unless I open a door. In which case it chimes once on open and once on close. Holding buttons on the remote does nothing at all.



Now -- the only thing I'm left wondering is --

How much does the factory radio have to do with this programming setup?

Cuz my factory radio is on a shelf in the garage.

I wired up my Kenwood KDC-X889 with a standard Scosche Pontiac wiring harness. It cost me like $8 at Wal-Mart.

I didn't buy any of the $130 GM Data-bus adapter harnesses since I wired the turn-on wire for my head unit to the power window relay. I get RAP on my aftermarket head unit like I did on the factory one only now my tunes don't sound like ass.

HOWEVER -- is this my problem? Or is it something else?

The programming for your van is the same as my Grand Prix. the two imortant steps is the key to ACC-off-ACC, it has to be done quickly (1 second total). The other is the removal of the MALL-PCM fuse. I had someone set in the passenger seat and pull the fuse for me, as I couldn't reach it comfortably myself from the drivers seat. The first time I used an assistant to pull the fuse, it worked. I had tried numerous times by myself to no avail, as the reach across the car took all my weight off the drivers seat. I'm not sure if the seat has a sensor that detects your weight or not, but it's something to try.

Well...

Still no go on this thing.

I have my van at the dealer for some body work due to a mishap involving a (now) very-dead deer.

While it's there, they are supposed to reprogram my things for me. They claim they have to hook it up to the computer and program it electronically.

I guess we'll see...
