my axles were clicking, so i went to the junk yard and got 2 replacements...
so i got 2 used axles from a junk yard, and i still get a click when turning, but only when turning all the way left, when going forward. can u tell which side is gone by which way ur wheels are turned when it clicks? or does anyone know a good way to check what side is fucked? thanks boys Dan |

Re: cv joint click, what side?
your best bet is to just go get some new ones and replace both of them...if you don't have the money for both, get 1, then get the other when you get the chance. I work at a salvage yard and I wouldn't trust the axles that come out of those cars, especially older cars like ours.

Re: cv joint click, what side?
good call, the only reason why i got them was because it was only $100 canadian for both, and they got a 3 month warranty... so its free. any suggestions on how to isolate the side? thanks

Re: cv joint click, what side?
no ideas on figuring out which side its coming from, i just always replace both at the same time. I know the axles are only like $50-55 a piece in the states for new ones, its the core price that gets you.

Re: cv joint click, what side?
go to an open space, take a buddy. Pop the hood, have the buddy walk close by as you turn slowly.Try not to run your friend over though...

If You are making a left hand turn when you hear the noise it is the r/h half shaft that needs replaced. At least it has been on all the ones I have changed.

Re: cv joint click, what side?
I've driven cars with one bad axle that noise regardless of direction. If you can't visually see it, take jeef's advice. I don't see the reason for the open hood.

Re: cv joint click, what side?
Find a parking lot and start driving backwards. This should exaggerate the symptoms because it'll shift the stress points inside the joints. Do a tight slalom in reverse and note when the problem is at its worst -- because of the way torque is applied, the wheel on the inside of the curve will complain the most.

Re: Re: cv joint click, what side?
just had a quick question to add. I think mine are going too, it makes the click bla bla. but should it make one single click? or a few? cause on my old 4dr it made ceveral small clicks, but my new si makes one big one. It also makes it when i brake sometimes, thats why i didn't know if it was my cv's or not. thanks
